To appreciate the soul of sex, we may have to accomplish several things rather foreign to our current tastes and values. First, we have to learn how to enter the realm of the senses with abandon and trust, giving up our need to understand as we go down into sensation.

Second, we have to discover the nature, workings, and validity of mystical experience, an equally difficult tasks in a culture that believes only in the existence of that which it can measure and prove.

Third, and perhaps most difficult of all, we have to appreciate that these two task are inseparable, two sides of a coin, each a prerequisite for the other. Spirituality and sensation not only are not enemies, they feed each other. Sensation can be an effective way out of ego, and therefore it serves spiritual goals.
